Don’t read that book
Don’t read that book…
How about you read Martin Luther King instead ?
You know read that one…
The other one is racist…
Cos it’s heavy….and you don’t wanna
Turn the page….
Just go and get a book called
Martin Luther king jr….
You see he talks about his dream
About a character, not the color of a person’s skin
Let me get the book you were readin out of the way
And read about him, the dreamer…..
Let me throw that book to the side
Or drop it in the trash….
Don’t read that book, ok?
Don’t read….
That book shouldn’t be published
That like that shouldn’t be in the library…
Read Martin Luther king jr. Book
I’ll open it for you
See him at Washington D.C.
read ok?
I don’t wanna see you studyin that book again….
Read….
Push that book to the side
And read aloud
What does it say?
Did he had a dream?
Did he get rid of racism?
~
You pushed my real life
Black history away from me,
Sayin it’s racism….
I heard you whispered to other person
To get rid of it
And persuade me to read Martin Luther King….
Yet I brought this book for myself to read….
I don’t wanna study Martin
I already know him
You can’t choose a book for me
Just cos the title of this makes you feel uncomfortable…
You see the word, black….
You got a lot of nerve to snatch the original book
I was readin out of my hands
Cos you saw the truth upon the page that triggers you
Well maybe you need to sit with the uneasiness….
For a while….
Maybe you need to look in the mirror and why worry too much
About skin color, meanin whiteness instead of
A character….
You see I never worry about somebody’s skin color….
I don’t discriminate anybody
However there’s a whole system that does and right now it’s
Crumblin to the ground….
Besides I bet you didn’t listen to Dr. King’s speech
Where he and the workers who was goin to go to D. C.
And demand to get our check…
Your white race killed him….
Ya that part was never in the book you gave me…
I don’t wanna read a book
Talkin about racism is inappropriate
Cos you got white fragility….
Don’t push my book away….
I’m not readin it out loud
I’m readin to myself….
You ain’t gaslightin me…
You ain’t manipulatin me
Cos you don’t want me to think critically….
You don’t want me to think black
You don’t want me to spread the word
You don’t want me to know the facts..
And you want me to believe there’s no such thing as racism…
And white people and black people get along right?
You want to keep this fairytale in mind…
When really,
It’s still alive today…
Am I goin to fired?
Am I goin to jail?
For readin about my own past?
My ancestors?
You want history to repeat
You want me to be ignorant
You want me to be dumb
For your sake…
Fuck no…
I’m goin to read what I wanna read….
Is it my freedom?
Cos the last time I checked
Readin wasn’t against the law
Anymore
I’m not a slave either….
So stop with your so called mlk bull shit
And leave my other book I’m currently readin alone….

This is another scenario in my head. It never happened to me in real life. However has it happened to someone’s else? When a person saw you reading a real black history book and it gives them no good vibe, they choose a book that has civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I think that person is telling you this book makes me feel uncomfortable, please don’t read it around me. You’re thinking
Why are you in my business? You can turn the other way or walk Away. In that situation, it’s the power..
It’s always that power… especially when it comes to hard discussions of racism.
