Scenario again

This is scenario

Right?

And I write a black poem about

Black people and I tell the truth…

I’m in class and all the students have free time….

I’m one of the students and I am writin in my notebook

I showed it to a teacher’s aide, next thing I know

I’m at time out…and teacher said please don’t ever write this again….

I’m facin the wall cos I wrote the truth on paper….

Then my parents were called….i got expelled….

Now this poem wasn’t my assignment.

It was my leisure time and feelings were running through my

Head and soul…and so I write what’s on my heart….

Didn’t know advocacy for my people is a punishment….

Didn’t know givin my race a voice was a racism

When actually it wasn’t….

This is  a scenario…it’s not real…..

However

There are young black poets

Write about their experiences

About black power….

I don’t know if they’re being punished

For speakin the truth from the heart….

I may not know if black poets have

Passed away for givin a voice to others who have

None at all….

It’s possible for a  black student

To go to time out for writin a beautiful

Piece that makes people uncomfortable….

Hypothetically I’m puttin in his or her shoes

And I obverse the situation…

I look at the expressions…

They asked me where do I get this from?

I’m callin your mom…

And I get home afternoon

Mom said we need to talk….

Maybe a black student will not be in trouble

Or be grounded all cos you want a poem to challenge

A critical thinkin…you mean no harm…

All you want people to think….to think for themselves…

Sometimes they don’t wanna think…

They wanna live in ignorance…

All I can say is to be careful who you

Show your masterpieces to…

Not all  people who will agree,

They will take it offensive…

Especially with tone and words you choose,

It doesn’t mean you have to edit your work

To make others feel at ease….

This is your soul, your heartbeat

Never let anyone turn your metaphors into

A false monster….

You can write your black poetry

All you want, let people be in their discomfort zone…

Cos they need to learn the truth anyway….

They will find out later on or not….

At least you give a brain somethin

To function on….that’s purpose….

For me

I was never in timeout for

Writin a black poem about

Black people and how they experience

Racism on a daily basis….

I’m glad I didn’t….

I just wanna know is it possible for

A young black poet to be At a corner

For writin a piece about her blackness

In her or his free time? And she shows it

To somebody like a teacher or a friend?

And the parents were called cos you wrote a

Poem, sayin you’re racist?

It depends who you’re surroundin with…

Not everyone knows about melaninated

Experience…you could be surroundin by

Conservatives..who knows?

Be aware….

Again this is a scenario…

And I’m thinkin of young beautiful

Black poets out there who has that kind of

Compassion to pen your heartbeats on paper…

Keep writin, keep speakin the truth,

Don’t ever stop…

Your voices are important….

Black poets matter

Young and elder black poets matter…
