Black historians

 Black Historians 

I wanna know 

How many black historians 

Died cos they wrote their 

Own history books….

How many were they secretly assassinated 

Cos they typed truth on every page?

I’m curious now…

Black people 

Read a lot, right 

Unfortunately 

I would say not 

All of them read books like 

That…most of them 

Avoid simple words on 

Paper…

Have you heard 

Of ignorance is bliss

And not everyone heard 

Of well known 

Black historians 

Who actually studied roots from 

The past….

They travel around the world 

And learn people who look like us

Who has had experiences 

I heard they grab those ugly pieces

Of Europe and how the cavebeasts 

Disrespect the moors way after they 

Taught them how to bathe, how to do 

Math and music 

And we never learn 

That in school….

Cos if we learn 

White supremacy would drop down 

Our rise is their panick mode…

This is why they banned books 

Apparently white feelings have 

To be gentle, have to be cradle 

Meanwhile 

The system is usually erasin 

Our ancestors and mother tongue 

They’re too desperate, 

And we’re doomed to become 

A broken record…every tragedy 

Same thing different people 

Different day and night 

Black historians 

Have sacrificed for 

The black community to 

Learn how great we are

How powerful we are

Sadly most of black people have 

Ignored have laughed 

Haven’t been taken seriously..

Majority of black people

Don’t know black historians 

Have passed away cos 

They wrote facts in their books

Hopefully brothas and sistahs 

Will pick them up and read…

They did…

I’m sure in Jim Crow 

Black books weren’t allowed in 

The white bookstore…

 

I’m only wonderin about 

White supremacy is still punishin 

Black historians for writin 

Essays about melanin 

Do they make them sugar coated?

Lie after lie?

Black history 

Is damn important 

We have to know who we are 

What did we do before slavery?

What were our minds like before 

Whiteness spread over our nerves?

Before we were damaged?

I thought self education 

Was type of healin that we need 

As a people…also our intelligence 

Is another weapon to fight that 

White man’s fork tongue….

We need to stretch our brains 

And souls to wash the poison 

Away…

I appreciate 

Black historians 

A lot…they made me 

Wake up, they made me think 

I wish I could learn my black 

History earlier as a teenager 

That way i could express my blackness 

More into my adulthood….

In the 2000s 

But I didn’t…

I didn’t educate myself 

On black history 

A lot til much later…

I should know about 

Black historians 

I should have known 

The reason why they passed 

Cos of their powerful books they published….

Black people have read 

The books 

Some never had heard of 

Them…I think

Knowledge of self 

Should recommend 

At all times 

Especially for the black babies 

They need to know 

They need to learn their past 

And how to love themselves…

They need to know 

About 

Black historians who 

Went to continents 

Just to find our souls 

And bones 

Without 

Internet….
