And listened 

Also being nosey 

To witness 

Black women 

Becomin 

White women 

Who judged other black 

Women and black girls 

About their natural hair…

I blame white supremacy 

Came up with white beauty standards….

It’s a pattern…

We were taught by them to 

Hate our own selves…

They benefited from 

Our own low self esteem 

Our own insecurities 

Our own envy….

They usually put a white woman 

In front of us…

To look up to…

To have her become our role model….

To believe she’s superior to all races…

It always has been that way….

It’s why black mamas teach 

Their daughters 

Their own beauty 

Black is beautiful…

They encourage them to look up

To girls who look like them….

To show them you’re beautiful 

To show them you can do anythin possible….

Still 

Many black girls 

Black women

Still look up to that white woman

They’re actin like her 

Judgin natural hair 

Sayin it’s not good….

They will truly think 

Straight hair is always better….

They forgot 

They were born with a crown….

They were messin with a tennis player’s coils  

On social media…

They did that on a celebrity’s daughter’s hair….

It’s a pattern…

An ugly one….

I witnessed deep rooted self hate…

If you don’t like black person’s hair 

You never like your own, either….
