You can’t, 

Black people

They see color

You know 

I know 

We wanna be colorblind 

We wanna see we’re all 

Human….

But, I hate to admit 

That 

Integration is hurtin 

Us deeply….

What hurts most deeply?

My people don’t really believe 

Racism is nonexistent….

Yet in their souls 

They do….. 

they act like 

It’s not there….

You do see it,

Black people 

Has been gaslight up 

Way too much 

Not to put a good eye on 

That issue, not only 

They’re lyin to themselves….

Black people 

Deny color 

When we talk about race, 

They have crushed feelings

Cos they know exactly what’s goin on

They don’t wanna stand up to 

White supremacy 

Especially when they have white friends

It’s so difficult 

They don’t wanna break friendships with 

Them…

It’d be that one buddy or two 

Who wants to see black people swingin

On the tree…

They wants to call you boy

Or say the n slur…..

And you could still deny color….

It’s insane…..

You can’t 

Deny color….

It’s why we’re speakin 

Up….

Actually 

We need to be 

An eye for an eye 

Instead of givin 

Racists grace….

Somehow

We’re trained to 

Give them compassion….

It’s part of conditionin….

It’s a trauma response…..

We go makin speeches 

About this isn’t about race

Even on interview

We be sayin 

It doesn’t have to do with race

And it’s a lie….

A foolish lie

Other times 

We’re told not to discuss 

Racism, right?

Like it’s inappropriate 

It’s in our face….

You 

Can’t 

Deny 

Sorry black people

I think part of it was 

Black parents taught 

Their kids not to see color 

And they live in all white neighborhoods 

And go to white schools 

Knowin there is a risk for danger..

Even if it’s not…

I hate to break it 

To you 

But you can’t trust 

White folks 

Cos of history 

Cos of hate crimes 

Cos of how they look at you 

And see melanin…

So you can’t deny 

Color 

You can never color 

Even some white people 

Say you can’t deny 

Color 

They know their own race 

They will tell you don’t be

The only black person  in all white spaces 

Some still carry racial terror with them…

They said the same thing we said 

And 

You still can’t 

Deny color 

You can’t admit 

The harshest world sees color…

Society sees black….

You can’t deny it
