If I read a black history book

If I read a black history book

At a day program, someone reads the title

And it makes them feel uncomfortable,

Would I be told not to bring this book anymore?

Find another one that has please the eyesight?

Would I go to timeout for readin page after page?

This never happened, but it’s a scenario….

I know educational system banned black history…

They took melaninated books out of the school curriculum

Cos we have to coddle white students’ feelings…

Would this mean the same thing?

And if it goes too far, would they call their parents?

I think it depends…cos people have different opinions…

If I’m surroundin by conservatives and by people who

Doesn’t believe that racism doesn’t exist…some will tell

The manager about a certain book.  They could ask me to

Leave it at home…it’s not a pornography, right?

It’s an educational book about black people

Who have done so much for the world….

Who dealt with oppression

And others who thought this book is a hate speech…

They might think it’s about hatin white people, or punishin

White people…

When it’s not…..

You know what they say, “don’t judge the book by its cover.”

People are judgin the book without knowin what’s it about….

Or they knew synopsis, it’s the truth that unsettles them

Facts give them triggers…

You know racism can’t be allowed to discuss….

And the book is in my hands…it’s the elephant….

It’s possible for anyone to get in trouble for readin a book

On Slavery at a day program or  at a workplace in your free time

And people saw you then shit happened….

This never happened to me or anybody…

It’s just a scenario runnin through my brain

Cos white supremacy are bannin black history books

Everywhere…maybe they already have been doin that…

Honestly they’re snatchin our rights

Our human rights to know our history….

They’re takin away learnin our stories….

It’s why we should have books at home

On our tablets..so we can educate ourselves

And use our critical thinkin skills….

I think we should encourage others to read…

Readin is so important, it’s a part of self discovery…

Brain exercise…remember slaves weren’t allowed to

Read…it’s kinda doin the same thing in a way but different…

It’s not fair….
