You’re the only one 

In all white spaces…

I was you, 

But I didn’t get killed…

I wasn’t thinkin about 

Skin color at the time…

I see no suspicious 

On white folks’ expressions 

Unfortunately, 

I heard what happened 

On the news, 

And some black parents 

Had that talk with you 

Hangin out with your white friends

They say you can’t 

Cos you never know 

When you might come home or not….

That’s part of being black in America…

White folks are not really our friends….

You may think black people are racist 

Even white folks are sayin….

Cos they know, they’ve been around 

Their family members, their friends, etc 

Honestly 

Token black friend 

Is a bad idea 

Cos you’re treated like a 

Pet or a child….

You can’t be the only black person

At a table…

It’s why integration has fucked black people

Up….

Not sayin 

You can’t have white friends

I’m sayin 

Be careful 

Cos some want to hang you on a tree….

Racism was taught 

In the white households 

Black children are taught 

To live in a colorblind society 

While black….

Yet they’re both wrong…

White folks do see color, 

They do…..

And we just see characters….

And token black friend

Who hates thyself 

Talk white 

Act white

Kissin ass to white folks

Even worse 

He or she has turned into 

A white supremacist 

With white supremacy 

Talkin points….

You tell black people 

To stop talkin about racism 

Stop writin about it

You think black people made 

White people feel bad…

When do we see that?

Sambo is defendin his massas….

It never goes away…..

Toxic mindset 

Of lovin white folks

You don’t mind being called a

Nigger, or boy

Or monkey 

The kind of buddy you are 

Sat there 

Be quiet 

And take all their jealousy and envy….

Somehow 

You forgive them 

Cos they’re your friends 

And 

You truly believe in your heart 

Skin color doesn’t matter

But what if you passed away

And your so called friends got away 

With it….

Us 

Black people have trusted 

White people way too much….

and that faithfulness can lead us to 

Danger….

I’m being realistic 

As I can be

We must acknowledge our own safety 

We must think about these things 

As a black community 

As a black family 

Before we ever go with our white friends

Before we become the only black person

Before we become victims….

Token black friend 

Don’t be one…

Please 

Love your melaninated self instead 

Be around black friends 

They will never turn you into a strange fruit….
