A black man is readin

A black man is readin
And a white woman is uncomfortable….
Hmmm, I wonder why…..
Why are you so uncomfortable, white woman?
You don’t like it when a black man gain more knowledge
About himself….
You saw the title, didn’t you?
Breaking The Curse of Willie Lynch
How about this?
You do know who Willie Lynch is, right?
You do know that guy, right?
Real or not,
He’s the abuser of black minds…
I’m sure he’s not the only one….
How about this?
You can respectfully mind your business….
You go holdin your purse a little too tight, ain’t you?

I mean
Your blond hair sorta sticks up
In fear, maybe in the back of your neck….
But you need to mind your business….
Let that man read in peace…
Why are you tryin to intimidate him?
He can’t educate himself…
Honey we’re not on plantation…

Are you goin to call the cops
Cos he’s readin about himself….
And his own people….
Cos in case you didn’t know
There are black people who are readin
More black history books….

Since your people, your system has erased
A lot of our own melaninated selves….
It’s just a fact, you may hate it or not
Though black people want to know
Who they really are, where they came from
How did their brains got so sick….

Your so called proud race took that choice
Away….they took their human rights to learn
Somethin and y’all are still doin it today….
Are you goin to act like a Karen in every bookshop
And every library not to promote black history books
By black scholars?  With one phone call?
Or an email?

All cos you saw a black man sittin next to you
On a train readin how to crack spells from mental
Slavery…he wanted to learn how to protect his
Blackness, how to love and respect his melanin unconditionally
Without hesitation….there’s nothin wrong with
Being an intelligent black person…..

However it’s all wrong to you, white woman….
In your racist mind, black people are supposed to be
Entertainers and athletes….
This black man might not wanna play basketball….
He just wants to read and understand….

If you were his massa, you wouldn’t let him touch
A book….

When you saw the name,
Willie Lynch
Do you know him?
Do you know how he made black people so docile?
With every whip, every hit, and every smack?
Even rape…
He wrote a guidebook for slaveowners to keep the
Slaves in line….
He was cruel….

I think you do know
Him, know the history
And you know what he did…
You thought it was long time ago
You thought those horrors were deep secrets
Unfortunately

It’s documented…
It’s in the book….
Are you goin to write an angry letter
To that author who wrote the truth?
I mean there’s no comfort zone
In the moment….

You can always look the other way, lady…
Or move to another seat….
You can’t tell a stranger not to read this book….
Again you ain’t a master….
